Floating City – Homeless people research

I found this interesting article about a 6 foot box that was for a social experiment. It was for someone to sleep in and keep sheltered, there is also a radio and a charging area for the person to use. I thought this was a cool idea and that if we consider the homeless people in our city we should consider doing something similar to this.

I also found these sleeping pods that China has for travellers to use which are similar to the ones that Japan made . I thought this could be pretty useful too for homeless people. I was thinking that we could have a building of these where they could stay for a while to rest.

Along with things for the homeless I was thinking about other things they could use, I found this sleep box which is located in airports for travellers to rest in while waiting. things inside this include

  • Matted film on windows with changing transparency
  • Mood lighting – LED lamps with changing light colors
  • Built-in media block (TV, touch-screen monitor)
  • Wi-Fi router
  • Alarm, intercom
  • Safe deposit box
  • Built-in payment station with magnetic keys

Wit this idea I was thinking that the homeless people have these around the city and when they needed somewhere safe to rest they could use these.

The only issue with all of these is money and with the sleep box who would be cleaning it. However I think they could be useful if we consider these.
